Award-winning restaurant's £200 hospice donation
THE Ashiana Tandoori in Colchester has celebrated being awarded the accolade of best south Asian restaurant in the east of England by donating £200 to St Helena Hospice.
The Magdalen Street restaurant beat off competition from hundreds of other restaurants to scoop the top award as voted for by the public in the 2013 Asian Curry Awards. To celebrate, the Ashiana hosted a special authentic cuisine evening last week, with a percentage of the evening's takings being donated to the hospice.
The Ashiana's Musharaf Hussain said: "Winning such a prestigious award was thrilling and a great tribute to the dedication of all the staff, both in the kitchen and front of house. By way of celebration and thanks, we hosted a charity evening in aid of St Helena Hospice. It was a really enjoyable evening and we plan to repeat it early in the New Year."
Catherine Venables, Community Manager at St Helena Hospice, said: "Firstly a big congratulations to the Ashiana for winning such a prestigious award – very well deserved. We are absolutely delighted with their chosen means of celebration and would like to extend our thanks to both them and their customers for their valuable support of the Hospice, £200 is a fantastic total."
